Jerry Buttles brought his Polaroid camera when visiting the menswear designer backstage during his NYFW show
The San Fran-born designer is a master of interpreting American classics, but for a young and urban generation. Not too young, though. This isn’t aimed at teenagers, but at whoever is into Bermuda shorts, rain macs, anoraks and waterproof cagoules. The clothes sort of can’t help but be practical. Still, it’s no grandpa’s wardrobe. Ervell, for a long time the go-to designer on New York’s fragile menswear scene, injects one part attitude and one part fine fabrics into his collections for a subtle result. His clothes are more everyday uniforms than show pieces – perhaps it’s best to describe them as fancy wardrobe staples? Nevertheless, New York Fashion Week is a better place thanks to Patrik Ervell and his luxury coach jackets…
