Day four of our daily coverage of London Design Festival 2012 features the work of Italian design maestro Gio Ponti
The contrast between the graphical metal design of the top and the four thin legs of this Gio Ponti coffee table demonstrates the capacity of the maestro to mix together functionality and elegance.
Embodying the golden years of Italian design, post World War Two, Ponti is historically one of the most important Italian architect and designers, a fact confirmed by his inclusion in Design Festival of London with the exhibition Vivere alla Ponti, hosted by the Molteni showroom. The exhibition displays the Ponti collection, born from a long period of research and study into the original product prototypes created by Ponti during the period 1935 to 1957.
The V&A have organised a talk 20 September entitled The intimate world of Gio Ponti, which will be chaired by celebrated design critic and author Stephen Bayley to discuss the career of this icon of Italian design.
Vivere alla Ponti is opening tomorrow until the 22 September in 199 Shaftesbury Avenue
